Start here

Three steps, in order. Each one leaves you with something working.

  1. Install and run — get the launcher, log in, and know where the game puts things. On Linux, sound and devices covers the one thing most likely to need a hand.
  2. Run a server — host a session and have a friend join it. There is no port to forward and no server to rent; you host from the game.
  3. Your first mod — write something the session runs. Everything in Ironlark that is not the engine is a mod, including the gamemode and the map you just played on.

If you are here to operate a session rather than build for one, Running a server is your area. Before you plan anything large, read The boundary today — the list of things the engine cannot do yet is much cheaper to read now than to discover halfway through a build.
