Running a server
Hosting today means running the game yourself with --become-host. There is no
dedicated server — a host with nobody attached — and there is no port to forward.
Both of those surprise people who have hosted other games, so both are covered below
before anything else.
Start here
Section titled “Start here”- Run a server — nothing to a session somebody has joined
Operating it
Section titled “Operating it”- Configuration —
config/server.toml, every section and every key - Enabled mods — installed is not enabled; what a session runs, and in what order
- Grants — letting a cleanup or moderation mod reach what it did not create
- Per-mod settings — switching one mod’s own hooks off without disabling the mod
- Connectivity — why there is no port, and what carries traffic when a direct path fails
- Diagnose a failed join — symptom, cause, fix
Not built yet
Section titled “Not built yet”A dedicated server you can start on a machine and leave running. What you configure today is read from the same file a dedicated server will read, so the work is not throwaway — see Configuration, and the roadmap for where this is going.
